"We can all turn the tide on this virus", says Nottinghamshire Director of Public Health in latest Covid-19 statement

With the infection rate in Mansfield nearly doubling last week, Nottinghamshire’s Director of Public Health and the leader of the county council have released a statement.

There were 185.7 new cases per 100,000 people in the seven days up to October 15.

As a result of the increasing infection rates across the county, Nottinghamshire has been placed in Tier 2, meaning new restrictions were introduced last week.

Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Kay Cutts MBE, has thanked ‘everyone for playing their part’ in her latest statement, but outlines the importance of continuing to do so.

She said: “When conversations with government are initiated the best outcome for Nottinghamshire people will be achieved in consultation with all the leaders of this county; primarily for the health of our residents but also for the best possible economic outcomes.

"We asked our residents to not mix with other households indoors and to stick to the rule of six outdoors a week before the new Tier 2 restrictions were formally implemented.

"I thank everyone for playing their part and ask them to continue to adhere to these rules to prevent further harm to people and jobs in Nottinghamshire.

"Whatever is on the horizon and whenever it may be, we will work hard to make sure that our most vulnerable people are protected during these difficult winter months to come.”

Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire, said: “I can appreciate that people will want some certainty about the types of restrictions that may impact on their lives in the future.

"My priority is to do all I can every day to help slow the spread of the virus across all our communities.

"We now see transmission rates increasing in people aged over 60.

"Therefore, it is vital every one of us focuses our effort on what we can all do now to slow the spread to protect the most vulnerable people in our neighbourhoods.

"Sticking to the Hands, Face, Space rules, getting a free test if you have symptoms and following the advice when it is given is the best way we can all turn the tide on this virus and minimise the long term impact on our lives.”
