Mansfield named as one of 10 areas across England where Covid-19 rates are RISING

Mansfield had the 10th biggest week-on-week rise in coronavirus infection rates across England, according to the most recent government health data based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

The average rate of virus infection jumped from 563.5 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to January 8, up to 581.8 infections in the week ending January 15.

Covid-19 cases also increased from 616 new infections in the week before, to 636 new cases in the seven days to January 15.

Mansfield is one of just 11 local authority areas across the country where virus rates of infection and cases are still on the rise.

The average rate of infection fell in Ashfield, with 617.6 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to January 8 – dropping to an average rate of 520.6 cases in the week to January 15.

Ashfield’s total number of new infections in the town also decreased from 790 cases to 666 new coronavirus cases in the seven days to January 15.

Sutton’s average rate of infection is down to 684.3 infections per 100,000 people in the week to January 15, from 967.8 recorded in the seven days to January 8.

The total number of new cases in the area has also fallen from 1,997 infections in the week ending January 8, to 1,412 new cases in the most recent period.

The trend of infection rates and new cases falling in Sutton and Ashfield is mirrored across England, after 301 out of 315 local authority areas also documented a reduction in rates and infections.

Knowsley in Merseyside has the highest rate in England, with 1,712 new cases recorded in the seven days to January 15 – the equivalent of 1,134.8 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from a rate of 1,464.9 cases in the seven days to January 8.

Slough in Berkshire has the second highest rate, down from 1,166.3 to 1,025.2, with 1,533 new cases.

Barking and Dagenham in London is in third place, after the rate of infections fell from 1,636.9 to 962.9, with 2,050 new cases.
