Edwinstowe and Clipstone have the highest number of Covid-19-related deaths in the Mansfield and Ashfield area – according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

The figures, which cover the time period March 1 to April 17 this year, show that a total of 10 people died in the area after contracting coronavirus, or where it was stated as a contributing factor in their death certificates.

By comparison, Church Warsop and Meden Vale has no reported deaths from the virus, while Somercotes and Pye Bridge sits in the middle with five.

It is not clear how reflective the figures are of the current situation as they only relate to deaths until April 17, with death certificates issued by April 18. Place of death is also not recorded.

According to the latest figures released by NHS England, the number of people who have now died at Sherwood Forest Hospitals – which covers the Mansfield and Ashfield areas – is 98, suggesting the actual figures are significantly higher, with 94 deaths in the area recorded more than two weeks ago.
