Mansfield BID has confirmed it has taken the decision to cancel the popular Market Place event because of the lockdown measures, with most town centre shops closed.

The town’s BID (Business Improvement District) has also announced the annual Garden and Craft Festival, which runs in the market in September, has also been axed until 2021.

"It is a shame because these events have proved to be incredibly popular and have brought more and more people into Mansfield town centre.

"But, in light of current events, it made absolute sense that they should not go ahead."

The 'Life's a Beach' attraction was scheduled to run in the market between August 3 and August 29, while the Garden and Craft Festival was set to take place on September 5 and 6.

The spokesperson said that planning for the craft festival had now moved into next year's event.

"When a particular event finishes, we straight away begin planning for the following year's event", they said.

"So, while a lot of planning has already been done for the Garden and Craft Festival, no additional costs, such as advertising have been incurred.

"Similarly, no money has been spent on the beach.

"We remain hopeful that this year's Christmas market will take place, and we are still able to take bookings for the chalets.”
