'We are ready for you' - Warsop pub undergoes major refurbishment ahead of lockdown easing
The landlady of a pub in Warsop which has undergone a major refurbishment during lockdown says she ‘cannot wait’ for her regulars to see the new-look community venue.
The Hare & Hounds on Church Street has been transformed over the past month and now boasts a new function room, a large outside seating area ready for the easing of restrictions as well as a secure child-friendly seating area.
Delighted Geraldine Barker says she has been overwhelmed by the support of her regulars and Hawthorn Community Pubs following the death of her husband Simon from coronavirus last year – and says she is ‘ready’ to welcome back her customers.
And she told Chad the Hare & Hounds has been inundated with enquiries for bookings – but has urged regulars and new customers to follow social distancing rules when she re-opens.
“The refurbishment is complete and I’m so happy with it,” she said. “Hawthorn have done an amazing job and we are ready for you all now and can’t wait to open.
"We now have a large outside area with seating for 80, and the grassed area is perfect for kids.
"We had 250 enquiries for bookings when we started taking them – we couldn’t believe it!
"We are just hoping now that people will be respectful when we re-open and look after the place – a lot of money has been spent on it.”
Geraldine and Simon had run the pub for two years before his untimely death from Covid-19 in April last year – but she says Hawthorn has been ‘amazing’ in the months since.
"They supported me both personally and professionally, and to new give the pub a whole new look is just the icing on the cake,” she said.
"It has been a really difficult year, but they have really helped me though and now I can look to the future and build our community pub back up.
"I cannot wait for everyone to see what we have been up to during lockdown.”
Mark Brooke, Director of Managed Operations at Hawthorn, said: “The last year has been a difficult one for everybody in the pub sector, but particularly for Geraldine, and we’re extremely proud to have her as part of the Hawthorn family.
“Our people are our most important asset, and we want to give our pub operators whatever support they need to make their pub a thriving hub for the community.
"The Hare and Hounds is a proper community pub, and our investment will make sure that it’s the best place in Warsop for locals to enjoy a beer in long-awaited company when the pub reopens in April.”
