Foundation Derbyshire, who run the award, aims to develop a collection of contemporary art produced by rising artists which will be nationally important and will enrich the cultural life of Derbyshire.

During the residency, Kerri will produce a portfolio of new work for solo exhibitions at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery and at The Dome at the University of Derby Buxton campus.

Kerri commented: “Sense of place is an underpinning theme in my previous work, added to this the fact that I have lived in Derbyshire all of my life, gives this residency a personal connection. Taking inspiration from my surroundings, my focus of Our Treasure Houses will reflect on my childhood experience of growing up in an ex-mining town, when the demise of previously thriving industries of Collieries, Potteries, pipe works and brickworks were all too prominent. Acknowledging the fact that we live in an ever-changing landscape, I will be re-visiting relics of a past era across the county to inspire paintings full of remnants and traces of Derbyshire’s Industrial heritage.”
