The society is now the oldest amateur company in Derby, having performed well over 100 shows since the company was formed in 1959, with many awards picked up along the way.

Sister Act, based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture starring Whoopi Goldberg, tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier.

Trying to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with her very tough - and very married - gangster boyfriend named Curtis, and when Deloris witnesses him commit a murder she ends up in hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times.

Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling - working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.

The show once again re-unites the successful production team of Phil Simcox as director, Morris Fisher as musical director and Pauline Reader as choreographer.

“Good Companions are always looking for new shows to bring to our audiences,” said company president Keith Scott-Savage.

“We were delighted to be one of only a handful of amateur companies throughout the country who were granted the performing rights licence to put this new musical on. “

“The pressure is really on with this show as a new professional tour begins, choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood and hits the theatre circuit this autumn, ” said Pauline.

“Dancing nuns are not something you experience every day and so we’ve packed in a few surprises.”

Phil Simcox added: “We’ve worked with children and dogs in Oliver!, had a big flying sequence in The Witches of Eastwick, so hopefully our singing and dancing nuns will live up to our audience expectations.

“The show features a fantastic score and songs which make you want to move,” concluded Morris Fisher.

“The music was written by Alan Menken, who has won Tony® awards and has been an Oscar® winner eight times for shows such as Beauty and the Beast and Little Shop of Horrors.”

The show has been described as ‘a feel-amazing musical comedy’; so don’t miss out, Raise Your Voice and join The Holy Order of the Little Sister’s of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith with their ecclesiastical extravaganza.
