Contemporary arts event is back

The event involves five exciting mini contemporary arts events and a double-decker bus to take this pop-up community between Ironville, Alfreton and Langley Mill.

There will be fun and delightful creative surprises at each festival location, great arts, fantastic activities and new skills for people of all ages, individuals and extended families to learn.

There will be a creative walk, pop-up game show and fashion constructions, all with lots of refreshments from a performance café.

Socially engaged artist Sally Lemsford created Flaming Skirt Festival in 2012 because the Olympic Torch Relay skirted round instead of visiting Amber Valley.

In 2014, the Festival looked at what happens in village halls. It contributed to the setting-up of the very successful Ironville and Codnor Park Action Group that now creates events and regular activities for local people.

Codnor Park’s Sally said: “People are really excited by the return of this Arts Festival. It gets people together to look at the locality with fresh eyes; to say ‘these are great places to live, work and visit’.”

Flaming Skirt Festival 2015 starts at Ironville Church Hall, Casson Street, at 10am on June 28.
