Two weeks ago I wrote that Mansfield Town's FA Cup knockout by Cardiff City - and missing out on the chance to host Premier League leaders Manchester City - was not necessarily a bad thing.

I argued that if the glorious failure - for that is what the replay defeat to Neil Warnock’s side was - was followed by victories in the following league matches, that was more important.
