Chris Adcock gutted by Rio Olympic elimination

Adcock and wife Gaby were beaten by Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba of Poland 18-21, 27-25, 21-9 in their final group stage match to exit the mixed doubles.

Adcock said: “We’ve really enjoyed playing here but it’s gutting. We played well and put ourselves in a great position and another match with match point. We just didn’t take our chances.

“They played those points very well – he’s [Robert] an extraordinary athlete doing what he’s doing at his age and is always a threat. The whole group was difficult but it’s disappointing that it has come down to such fine margins.”
