Trailing 1-0 at half-time through Brett O’Donnell, Cory Bowler levelled for Athletic on 71 minutes.
Danny Roberts put South Normanton ahead eight minutes from time before Luke Garton sealed it on 90.
Athletic are third, three points behind leaders St Andrews with two games in hand.
