Mansfield Town hold minutes applause in 67th minute of Exeter City game

A minute's applause was held in the 67th minute of Mansfield Town's game at home to Exeter City for former Mansfield Town defender Ian MacKenzie, who died recently.

Ian, who was 67, was signed by then Stags’ manager Peter Morris in the summer of 1975 and became a solid and reliable central defender who was a first team regular in his first season.

He was a member of the Stags’ 1977 Third Division Championship side.

From hereon in, the club will respectfully honour recently-passed former players with a minute’s applause during home games, at a relatable time during the fixture and with an appropriate image projected onto the scoreboard.

As part of a new policy initiated, departed supporters can be honoured by way of a column in the club’s match programme if appropriate and requested to the club by a family member or loved one.

The club deeply appreciates the service and support of its former players and fans and deems it fitting to remember them in the above ways.
