SELSTON: Youngsters compete in cheerleading championships
Almost 60 girls aged three to 18 took part in the club’s second annual cheerleading championships at the weekend, performing for the first time in their bright purple and silver uniforms,
The cheerleaders showed off their skills to an audience of friends, family, club sponsors and judges Coun Sam Wilson, Coun Gail Turner and choreographer Danielle Crossley from Trix Dance Academy in Ripley.

Hide AdCo-founder Caroline Wilson said: “The girls have worked their socks off to get ready for these championships; not just at weekly practice but getting together at each others’ houses too.
“We are so proud of every single one of them for the work they have put in and for their team spirit.”
The cheerleaders performed routines as a group, as trios, duos and solos. Groups of five also performed competition stunts.
Contestants were judged on their technique, choreography, facial expressions and execution.

Hide AdThe new costumes were sponsored by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust and W Westerman Ltd,
Team coach and choreographer Susan Brown said: “The cheerleaders look brilliant and they are really proud to be wearing our club colours. Now they can’t wait to perform in regional and national contests.”
