The units are the first out of the factory since the coronavirus lockdown and are already well on the way to completion on schedule. For the past few weeks Midlands construction company G F Tomlinson has been preparing the site, ready for the innovative pre-built homes to be delivered. The £1.7m scheme will see six two-bedroom and four three-bedroom homes go up over the next 20 weeks as part of a long-term programme to build new Mansfield District Council homes in the area.
The total cost of the project includes not just the homes but a new road, drainage and other services.

“I understand people are questioning whether they are value for money, however the aim here is for affordable homes for the tenants, as well as improving the long term impact on the environment.
"These homes are constructed in a way that means they will cost a lot less to heat than standard homes for the people living in them, and they should cost less to maintain in the future.”
This is a groundbreaking pilot scheme for the council as it is the first time modular housing has been used, which reduces the build time and means these much-needed affordable homes can be offered to local families sooner than would be possible with traditional construction.

Mayor Abrahams continues: “We are hoping that we will be setting the standard with these properties, and that other developers will follow suit by investing in greener alternatives.”
Rosemary Avenue is phase one, with further projects planned later in the year to meet the increased target for affordable housing during the Mayor’s time in office.
