The defibrillator is housed in a lockable cabinet and is accessible to the public 24 hours a day.

Pub landlord Karl Gregory said he felt it was important to have the equipment and launched a fundraiser to help pay for its storage cabinet.

He said: “It was vital, due to the location of the pub and a lack of defibrillators within the area.

“The Cricketers Arms is next to a public park as well as a cricket pitch used by the Kirkby Portland Cricket Club.

“This defibrillator is the only one based in the Nuncargate area that is accessible to the public at all times.”

The defibrillator was donated by the local charity Leon’s Legacy, which aims to put defibrillators in schools and the community, as well as offering free CPR training.

The Cricketers Arms and Kirkby Portland Cricket Club joined forces to fundraise for a cabinet for the defibrillator to be stored in, including a collection on the bar and a charity cricket match against local MP Lee Anderson.

Installation of the cabinet was completed free of charge by B and C Electrical and Security Ltd.
