Further arrests after Kirkby man stabbed in the street

Two more suspects have been charged with GBH have a man was stabbed on a Kirkby estate, after no less than three knife attacks in the area in the past few weeks.

Police were called to reports of an attack in broad daylight, believed to take place in the vicinity of Copeland Road and Spinney Close.

Witnesses alleged that a number of men were involved in the attack after an altercation involving a vehicle, and the victim, believed to be a 26-year-old man, was stabbed in the torso.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, August 6 and was remanded in custody until his next court date, yet to be set.

And now two more men have have been implicated in the attack, both charged with GBH and knives offences.

Jordan Manthorpe (12/05/1998) of Elder Street, Skegby was charged with GBH and threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place. He was remanded to court by police but given bail at court.

Lee Anthony Burton (17/03/1983) of Rowan Drive, Kirkby in Ashfield was charged with GBH and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was remanded to court by police but given bail at court.

Nottinghamshire Police said: "The investigation is on-going and we would still like to hear from anyone with information about the incident. Incident number 000346-04082016

The charges follow ‘frightening’ reports of the bloody attack in broad daylight, with neighbours witnessing as one young man was chased up the street by another and stabbed in the side of the torso, according to one person.

One man expressed his frustration with the regularity of attacks, saying 'not again' when we interviewed him on the Copeland Road stabbing.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the victim, an as yet unnamed man believed to be 26 years old, was also hit over the head with a metal bar.

Police cordoned off a section of Copeland Road in Kirkby at around 3pm on August 4 as crime scene investigators combed the area for evidence, with reports of blood splatters spreading as far away as people’s driveways.

The scene was described as ‘awful’ and ‘covered in blood’ by one witness, while other neighbours told of their shock as the attack is only the latest in a string of violent assaults in Kirkby, with a woman suffering fatal stab wounds just over mere metres away two weeks ago.

Pawel Lupa, 40, of Gleneagles Drive, Kirkby, has been charged with murder and attempted murder of another man.

And less than a fortnight later on August 15 a woman was stabbed in Barnes Crescent, less a mile away in the Leamington Estate.
