It’s not just opposition strikers that former Mansfield Town and now Derby County player Jake Buxton cuts down to size... it turns out he’s a dab hand with hair too.
The tough-tackling defender turned hairdresser when he shaved off the hair of Diane Forward as part of her fundraising bid for Cancer Research UK.
Diane, 48, from Warsop, raised £1550.60 and said: “Jake was nervous, but did a really good job!
“For a start I just had the grade four because my hair was quite thick and when he’d finished that he thought that was it, but I went the whole way.
“It was really great of Jake to give up his time and raise the profile of my event - and he also sponsored me £100 as well.”
Diane works for Respectful Care in Mansfield Woodhouse, who provide services that enable elderly people to continue living at home.
She had hoped to raise £500, so was delighted to treble that amount.
She added: “I chose to support Cancer Research UK because there are 200 different forms of cancer and it affects all people young and old.”
