Shirebrook Town run riot in 5-0 win at Pinxton

Shirebrook Town returned to action on Saturday afternoon as they made the short trip over to Pinxton FC, looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

As the game got underway Shirebrook made a very quick start and almost took the lead in the first minute when Ryan Parker got away down the left and found Lewis Foster on the edge of the box.

The midfielder fired his shot over the bar but over the following 15 minutes, Shirebrook had a number of opportunities to open the scoring. Joe Shaw went close twice as well as Parker, forcing Peter Robertson into two brilliant saves.

Pinxton went close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute when Ross Hardy headed over but Shirebrook were soon back on the attack and went close from a corner themselves. Joe Shaw found Kian Tansley whose header went just wide of the post.

In the 34th minute, all of Shirebrook’s pressure finally paid off. They finally opened the scoring when a long ball over the top found Tansley, who lobbed it over Robertson with his second touch to give Shirebrook the lead.

On the stroke of half-time. Shirebrook almost doubled their lead when Blaise Duruaku was played in down the right. He cut inside and fired a shot towards goal that would go narrowly wide of the far post.

Shirebrook made a fast start to the second half and doubled their lead in the opening minute when the ball was played into Duruaku, who smashed it towards goal and found the bottom corner.

With a second goal on the board, Shirebrook set about making sure they left with all three points. They were given a helping hand in the 55th minute when Connor Mogford’s back pass failed to reach goalkeeper Robertson and was intercepted by Duruaku.

He rounded the Pinxton keeper and rolled the ball into the net to claim his second of the afternoon.

No sooner was the game back underway. Shirebrook had their fourth goal. Kieran Grant’s ball over the top found Liam Childes, who hit it on the volley.

The visitors then got their fifth in the 71st minute when substitute Haris Diabagate was played through and shrugged off his defender to smash the ball into the bottom corner. The strike marked his first goal for Shirebrook since his arrival in the summer.
