Lee Anderson column: This is what's wrong with the left

Many people will have seen the clip of me doing the rounds on social media last week.

I was at a petrol station in Lowdham with Reform UK's Newark MP Robert Jenrick, where we were publicising Reform's plans to cut the cost of fuel at the pump by subsidising people's fuel.

This mirrored the savings that people would make under a Reform Government that would cut fuel duty and VAT.

As a result, there was a vast queue of cars waiting to get fuel at our discounted price.

When one particular car reached the pump, a lady got out and instantly gave me a tirade of abuse, calling me a scumbag, a liar, and she even told me that the Union Flag is racist.

I fundamentally disagree.

Many have died for our flag to give us the freedoms we have today.

We should be proud of our country

Everywhere you look in the world there is evidence of the good that Britain has done for humanity.

Our values and ideals have shaped western society as we know it today.

Unfortunately, we are giving much of our country away and it is spineless politicians who've allowed this to happen.

Nonetheless, I tried to be as professional and courteous as possible when talking to this lady, who then told me that she was a schoolteacher in Ashfield.

Is it any wonder why our young people are being indoctrinated at our schools when we have teachers such as this individual who evidently hates our country?

It was only a few months ago that it emerged that a display in a classroom at Quarrydale Academy in Sutton equated Nigel Farage and me with the Nazi Party, Fascism, Mussolini and Mosley.

And this is the irony of the left.

Those on the left that claim to want kinder, gentler, tolerant politics, but they repeatedly show they are actually some of the most intolerant people in politics.

They hate our country and everything it stands for.

They are hypocrites.

The lady in Lowdham who had thrown all this abuse at me was nonetheless still quite happy to take our subsidised fuel and queued all that time to do so.

At the very same event, Green Party protestors showed up to disrupt it.

To get to this event however, they had driven diesel-guzzling motor vehicles.

How do we know this?

Because one of them had parked their fossil fuel-consuming car round the back of the petrol station clearly displaying a 'Vote Green' placard in the front window.

So, for a party that wants to destroy our industries, do away with fossil fuels entirely and ban petrol and diesel cars, they are quite happy themselves to own and drive around in their machines of pollution.

They don't care to practice themselves what they preach to others.

Do as they say, not as they do.

They cannot be allowed anywhere near positions of authority.

Let's stop this madness and vote Reform UK.
