If runners choose The Friary as a charity partner, the West Bridgford based charity has pledged to cover the entry costs for the Nottingham marathon, with the price of entering the race currently starting at £32.

As an estimated 48,000 people ran the marathon in London yesterday, it is anticipated many Nottingham residents will be inspired to dust off their trainers and sign up to the Robin Hood marathon this week.

With just over five months to go until the Nottingham half marathon begins, now is the perfect time for runners to start training for the half marathon, with up to 10,000 people expected to be lining up on race day.

In order to help runners get best prepared for the big day, the Friary running club has been created, with the first session taking place on Thursday 2nd May at the Ferry Inn pub in Wilford, with runners of all levels welcome to join.

One of Nottingham’s biggest days in the calendar, it is anticipated that the city will be out in its numbers to support those aiming to finish Nottingham’s toughest race.

On a day where thousands are set to be raised for good causes, those designating the Friary as their chosen charity partner for the Robin Hood Half Marathon will be supporting homeless people in Nottingham and receive the bonus of not having to pay any entry costs.

The Friary is proud to offer financial support, food, clothing, and practical item donations to those who need it the most, while also offering advice and support which is accessible and free to anyone who needs it.

Ben Talbot, Chief Executive Officer, for the Friary, said: “We want to give a huge congratulations to all those who ran the marathon in the capital last weekend, which is sure to have inspired many brave locals to sign up to the Robin Hood Half Marathon in September.

“With the launch of this initiative, we also cannot wait to host our first Friary running club session, taking place on Thursday 2nd May, which we hope will help bring people together through a love of running and a joint goal of ending homelessness in Nottingham.

“As homelessness in Nottingham continues to worsen, the numbers relying on the Friary have increased, with an average day seeing over 50 people coming to the Friary with this number reaching as high as 70 on some days.

“This leads to greater costs for us to run the centre and we desperately need the finances to bridge that gap, we hope runners will look to choose us as their charity partner as anyone who participates in the half marathon for the Friary will be raising money that helps to ensure that we never need to turn anyone away.”

The first Friary running club session will be taking place on Thursday 2nd May at the Ferry Inn pub in Wilford. For more details, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/the-Friary
