From and Abba to Freddie Mercury and Queen - 10 things to do this weekend
With summer just round the corner and the weather looking up, it’s all systems go for an enjoyable weekend.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is also on the horizon, and whether you are a fan of the monarchy or not, the celebrations mean two extra Bank Holidays and more free time early next month.
To help you get in the mood, we’ve unearthed ten things to do or places to go in the Mansfield and Ashfield area and beyond over the coming days.

5. More Eurovision fun at Abba show
After the excitement of the Eurovision Song Contest last Saturday night, it's timely that Mansfield's Palace Theatre hosts a tribute on Friday to Abba, whose song 'Waterloo' has been voted the best in Eurovision history. 'Waterloo - The Best Of Abba' looks back at the sensational rise to stardom of the Swedish pop group and captures their unique sounds and hits.

6. Duke Of Portland exhibition
A free exhibition, 'Tunnel Vision', to illustrate the life of the 5th Duke Of Portland, who owned Welbeck during the Victorian period, has started at the estate's Harley Gallery and runs all year. The duke is famous for his extraordinary buildings, including miles of tunnels under the estate, and also for his unusual habits, such as only eating roast chicken and always wearing three pairs of socks.

7. Learn all about Newstead Abbey
Newstead Abbey, home to the poet Lord Byron between 1808 and 1814, is a beautiful, historic house set in a glorious landscape of more than 300 acres gardens and parkland. Learn all about it on a tour of the house this Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm when guides will help you explore its fascinating history. Places on the tours must be booked in advance.

8. A weekend of Segway
Enjoy a full weekend of Segway riding events at Thoresby Park's courtyard. Between 9 am and 6 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, you get the chance to tackle the adventurous Segway course, with its twists and turns in a woodland location. Thoresby Courtyard also has an array of shops and cafes, as well as thousands of acres of parkland, to sample.
