6. Dig up county's mining history
Mansfield and the rest of the county is steeped in mining history, and few places encapsulate it better than Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum, which is open on Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm. It is home to a superb collection of artefacts and memorabilia from the era before the pit closed in 1997. Knowledgeable staff (including ex-miners) are on hand to help too.

Join the Sheriff of Nottingham's master at arms, the warrior William De Tankerville, as he guides you on a tour of the majestic and fabled Greenwood in Sherwood Forest, sharing stories of medieval life and Robin Hood.
