PREVIEW: The Sound of Music comes to Nottingham Theatre Royal

WELL-KNOWN television actress Verity Rushworth will appear in a new production of The Sound of Music at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal next month.

The musical, which opens on 15th July and runs until 6th August, tells the well-loved story of the Von Trapp family’s flight across the mountains and includes favourite songs such as Edelweiss, My Favourite Things and of course, The Sound of Music.

Verity is familiar to soap fans for her role as Donna Windsor in ITV’s Emmerdale which she played for 11 years.

Featuring music by composer Richard Rodgers and words by lyricist Oscar Hammerstein, The Sound of Music originally premiered on Broadway in 1959, when it won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The 1965 Hollywood film, which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, won five Oscars, including Best Picture.
