A KIRKBY boyband were catapulted into the limelight when they got the chance to play at London’s 02 Arena.
After fighting off competition from around 10,000 other hopefuls, Xpose - who play pop, R n’B and rap music - performed at the live final of the Live and Unsigned in front of more than 2,000 people and a judging panel made up of music industry bosses and stars such as Bez from Happy Mondays.
After impressing the judges at the area final in Manchester in May, band members Matt Copeland (Matty-C), Tom Skuse (Cole) and Scott Turner (SainT) went through to the 02 final.
Competing in the Urban, Pop and Acoustic category, they came sixth out of 25 - and received compliments from people who had watched them.
Tom described the experience as ‘breath-taking’.
He said: “When we first walked into the 02, it was like - ‘wow’. It was breath-taking to think that we were playing there and what a massive achievement it was to even be singing in the 02.
“Everybody was really talented. We went on last to close the show and it was really good.”
The band, who took 50 supporters from Nottinghamshire, performed a medley of Love the Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna, as well as their own track No Evil.
Said Tom: “We never thought we would get as far as we did. We are going to keep pushing it - the music industry needs Xpose.
“The best comment was when we came off stage.
“One of the organisers said ‘you owned it’ and we had people coming up to us afterwards saying we should have come higher.”
Meanwhile, fans can catch the band when they play at Mansfield’s Party in the Park on 6th August and Ashfield Show on 13th August.
