Mansfield-based musical society Masque Productions are to perform Stephen Sondheim’s multi-award winning Sweeney Todd at the town’s Palace Theatre from November 8-12.
This is the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after 15 years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life.
When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race, murdering as many people as he can, while his business associate Mrs Lovett bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public.
The musical score by Stephen Sondheim is lush, operatic and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror.
The production stars Andrew Wolden as Sweeney Todd and Kelly Marsh as Mrs Lovett.
Performances are at 7.30pm nightly with an additional Saturday matinee from 2.30pm. Tickets are £14 (£13 concessions). (No concessions Saturday evening). They are available from the box office on 01623 633133.
