Candlelit acoustic gigs find new home

IF an evening of live music in a relaxing atmosphere sounds right up your street, then Mansfield Woodhouse every other Wednesday night is the place to be.

The Fairways bar, on Leeming Lane North, has recently become the new home of Candlelit Acoustic music shows.

Candlelit Acoustic was established in February 2008 by Meden Vale resident Pete Shields after London singer/songwriter Jont played an ‘unlit’ show at the village’s hall to an appreciative audience who enjoyed both the music and candlelit atmosphere.

Pete wanted to keep this ethos going and decided to set up

He scoured the MySpace website looking for artists and invited them to become friends of Candlelit before asking them to play shows at Meden Vale Village Hall.

The Rose & Crown at Barlborough soon became the new home for the shows, but when the landlord left the pub, Pete had to find a new venue.

He hosted several Candlelits in his flat, where artists would play to around 12 people who would pay £10 each and would often buy their albums, but the shows now have a new, larger home at The Fairways.

Said Pete: “The Fairways has hosted two so far - the first featured New York singer/songwriter Ben Arthur, with support from Ollerton singer/songwriter Ben Haynes and the second show featured Damon Valentine, a superb young singer/songwriter originally from Manchester.

“The evenings were a complete success and the venue is perfect with its lovely atmosphere and superb food.

“We even have a special Candlelit menu - which people can book tables for in advance.”

Candlelit’s next shows will see acoustic duo Capote tonight on 22nd June and Jack Harris on 6th July.

All shows are free but call 07971 785090 to book a table to dine.
