Loving Loretta’s burlesque

AFTER a hard week at work or when the grim reality of life gets too much, a place where you can get away from it all is much needed.

That place could well be in the world of the new Loretta Loves... monthly burlesque nights at Nottingham’s Belgrave Rooms.

Films such as ‘Moulin Rouge’ have raised the profile of the glamorous, tongue-in-cheek performance art and this new event from Mansfield-based Loretta Lace, fills a noticeable burlesque-themed gap in our county’s entertainment scene.

The first of these nights was held on Saturday and, it is fair to say, went down a storm.

After overcoming typical English reserve, the audience soon got into the swing of things, whooping and cheering ever louder at the performers’ sexy but never sleazy dances.

We were treated to a variety of burlesque styles, including cheeky cheesecake, Hollywood starlet and hypnotic fan dances, where giant ostrich feather fans are used to hide and reveal dancers as they please, while compere Mimi Libertine did an excellent job in keeping the show running smoothly.

In a time when being sexy is thought of as being skinny, burlesque provides a refreshing alternative attitude that, if Saturday is anything to go by, Nottinghamshire is ready to embrace. Visit www.lorettaloves.co.uk.
