Delivery of mining statue to Bilsthorpe

Bilsthorpe Parish Council was delighted to accept a special delivery earlier this week, in the form of a bronze statue of a miner, to commemorate the historical importance of the mining industry to the village.

The council had been asking for several years if the statue, previously located at the Union of Democratic Mineworkers (UDM) headquarters in Mansfield, could be returned to the parish.

The UDM is in the process of relocating their offices and it was decided to look favourably on the council’s request to re-site the statue at Bilsthorpe.

The statue can now be found at the side of the village hall outside the prestigious Heritage Mining Museum, which welcomes visitors and is open on Wednesdays and Sundays between 11am – 3pm.
