Thrilling four weeks in store

The eagerly-awaited Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season is an annual treat at the venue.

This year it is running from July 26-August 20 and features a quartet of plays.

The season, presented by Tabs Productions and the Theatre Royal Nottingham will feature a different murder mystery play each week over a four-week run.

Karen Henson, co-producer for Tabs Productions, said: “We’re very excited about the range of plays this year.

“Our third play, Father Brown - The Curse of the Invisible Man, will be the first time G K Chesterton’s fictional Roman Catholic priest and amateur sleuth, Father Brown, has ever been seen on the British stage. That’s hugely exciting for us.

“Our final play of the four, Mindgame, is a modern psychological thriller from renowned author and playwright Anthony Horowitz, who wrote Foyle’s War, and Sherlock as well as the new BBC detective series New Blood.

“The season also features House Guest, which is a classic kidnap mystery from Francis Durbridge, and Arsenic and Old Lace which is one of my favourite black and white Cary Grant movies. We really can’t wait to get going!”

The role of Father Brown will be played by John Lyons, an actor most recognised for his work on TV including A Touch of Frost with David Jason, in which he played Frost’s sidekick, Detective Sergeant George Toolan.

The four plays featured in the Colin McIntyre Classic Thrilller Season 2016 are launched by Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring, which can be from July 26-30.

In a quaint Brooklyn house, two sisters have been perfecting their elderberry wine. Little do their gentleman callers suspect that they will soon be heading off to more exotic climes courtesy of the sisters’ crazy nephew.

The other plays are Francis Durbridge’s House Guest, from August 2-6; John Goodrum’s Father Brown: The Curse of the Invisible Man, from August 9-13, based on the mysteries of GK Chesterton; and Mindgame, by Anthony Horowitz, which you can see from August 16-20.
