Rebecca Baker – better known by her fans as Becca B – has been on the road to stardom for the last seven years and has now released her debut single, Ready & Waiting, featuring Mcebisi.
“I would love for everyone to hear it, it’s very catchy and fresh,” she says.
However, her journey into music was not an easy one, after losing her grandma at the tender age of 12.
Becca, from Rainworth, says: “After her funeral. I wrote a song for my grandma. I needed a way to express my feelings and so I started writing.”
This was the catalyst that made her realise she wanted to do a career in music.
A business development manager by trade, the R’n’B/pop artust began focusing her attention on songwriting in 2009 and later, joined a band in 2010.
Bands included Girls Aloud and The Saturdays tribute acts, as well as being lead singer in the rock band Planet Friday.
Becca, aged 31, says: “It all started from there really, with amazing people being part of this journey at the right times.
I had some success in the bands and managed to get quite the following but I decided I wanted a solo career writing my own material.”
And her career is going from strength to strength, with performances at Party in the Park, supporting Gareth Gates, Ashfield Show, supporting Stacey Solomon, and even starring on The Xfactor.
These experiences, and coupled with her insatiable desire have seen her following attract more than 44,500 followers on Reverbnation, 37,000 likes on Facebook and 11,400 followers on Twitter.
But she remains humble about her far she has come.
“I’m always on my phone and I’m always talking to the fans,” she says.
“They help keep pushing me forward with this”.
Ready & Waiting is out now. Her debut album is due out later this year.
