Josh joins superstars on Splendour bill

A Mansfield drummer and his band Super Furniture will perform in front of 20,0000 people at Splendour festival after winning the search for Notts' best unsigned music talent - Future Sound of Nottingham.

Super Furniture, a four piece indie rock band consisting of Herbie Elton-Rowley, Jonathon Parrish, Will Coupland and Josh Boam, were crowned overall champions after performing in front of a panel of judges made up of industry professionals at Rock City.

Buzzing from the band’s winning set, Herbie, from Ilkeston, said: “Future Sound of Nottingham was the most amazing experience we have had as a band so far. It was incredible to play the Rock City main stage and we can’t wait for Splendour!”

Victory means that Super Furniture will now be the first act to perform on the festival’s main stage on Saturday July 23.

Rubbing shoulders with global superstars, they will join the Splendour stage with headliners including Grammy Award winner and pop sensation Jess Glynne and Ivor Novello winner Jamie Lawson, as well as legendary bands UB40 and The Human League.

Now in its eighth year, and organised by community project NUSIC, the Future Sound of Nottingham is local bands’ chance to perform at the city festival.

Sam Nahirny, of NUSIC, said: “This year’s FSN was an awesome showcase for Nottingham’s vibrant, diverse music scene. Six different acts, spanning the genres, genders and ages all taking to the most famous stage in Nottingham. It was a great night.”
