Catfish and the Bottlemen, Ian Brown and Madness will top the bill at this year's Tramlines Festival in Sheffield.

The Kooks, Dizzee Rascal, DMA’s, La Roux, The Big Moon and Pale Waves also feature in a strong line-up that is expected to mean tickets will sell out faster than ever.

The three-day event, which is again being held in the 30,000-capacity Hillsborough Park, takes place from Friday, July 31 to Sunday, August 2.

Headliners will perform on Nulty’s Main Stage, now named in memory of the Tramlines co-founder and director Sarah Nulty who died two years ago aged 36.

Former Stone Rones frontman Ian Brown – who has reactivated his solo career following the end of his old band’s reunion – will close the Friday night, indie rock outfit Catfish and the Bottlemen will headline on Saturday, while two-tone ska group Madness will close Sunday’s proceedings with a hit-packed set.

More than 30 acts have been announced, including Pale Waves, The Hives, The Fratellis, Pigeon Detectives, Easy Life and Twisted Wheel. It comes after Tramlines was named Best Metropolitan Festival at the UK Festival Awards.

Synthpop musician La Roux will be performing in Sheffield for the first time in more than a decade in support of her new album Supervision, which is released on Friday, while Sister Sledge – best known for disco anthems like Lost In Music and We Are Family – are returning to Tramlines six years after they first appeared.

The line-up has a local flavour too. The Sherlocks, Lucy Spraggan, The Reytons, The Blinders and Everly Pregnant Brothers are some of the bookings from Sheffield and the wider Yorkshire region.

More updates are expected soon, including details of names for the comedy tent, the Into The Trees family area and the festival’s Poet’s Corner. A free fringe element is also likely to happen in the city centre.

This will be the 12th edition of Tramlines, which started in 2009 as a council-funded venture on Devonshire Green and surrounding venues in the middle of Sheffield. The main stage later moved to the Ponderosa park, and then to Hillsborough in 2018, as demand for bigger acts grew.

Last year’s headliners were Two Door Cinema Club, Courteeners and Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Tramlines’ Alex Deadman said the festival was one of the fastest-growing in the UK, after tickets completely sold out for the first time in 2019.

"Tramlines has grown from humble beginnings as a free, multi-venue, inner-city festival, to a single greenfield site that stages the biggest names in pop, rock and indie across four stages of music, alongside the best in art, comedy, performance, handpicked food and craft ales,” he said.

"It continues to offer some of the best value festival tickets around. Tickets are already flying out and we would urge everyone to buy now, to make sure they are coming to Sheffield's biggest party.”

Weekend tickets cost £99.50, with a VIP upgrade available priced £50. Day tickets are £45 for Friday, and £50 for Saturday or Sunday. Children’s tickets are also on sale, with a pass for five to 12-year olds costing £10, or £3 for those aged four and under. Booking fees may apply. Visit www.tramlines.org.uk to purchase.
