Fury's Tornados to play a storm

Named by Billy himself, his Fury’s Tornados will be coming to the Palace Theatre in Mansfield to perform the hit show Halfway to Paradise – The Billy Fury Story.

After Billy’s premature death in 1983, the musicians thought that it was all over and each went their separate ways. However, 33 years later, on Saturday February 6, all the hit records, including Last Night was Made for Love, I Will, Jealousy, Wondrous Place and of course, Halfway To Paradise, will once again be played.

Liverpool-born Billy was dubbed the British Elvis at the height of the rock ‘n’ roll explosion that shook the foundations of the UK’s popular music scene in the late 1950’s. He developed his own unique style, scoring 29 hit singles and spending an incredible 281 weeks on the charts.

Did you know that Billy Fury once turned down the Beatles as a backing band, thinking that John Lennon may be troublesome?!

Fury suffered constant heart problems throughout his life, and at just 42 years of age - ironically the same age as Elvis – he passed away in 1983.

Billy will ‘come alive again’ on a giant screen at the Palace Theatre while Fury’s Tornados play live below on the stage. Taking on the role of Billy Fury will be Colin Gold, “a voice blessed by heaven” according to The Stage.

Fury’s Tornados remain the same line up as they were in 1970: Charlie Elston (grand piano and keyboards); Chris Raynor (lead guitar) and John Raynor (drums). They will be joined by Graham Wyvill (double bass & bass guitar.)
