FESTIVAL ROUND UP: Your who, what, where and when guide to local festivals

Whether you’re a seasoned festival goer or you just fancy a day (or two) out with a difference, here’s a round up of some of the local goings on to help you find the festival for you...

Y Not Festival - Pikehall - July 29-31

For one weekend a year, the gorgeous Peak District countryside becomes home to the Y Not Festival.

And this year former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher and his band The High Flying Birds are top of the bill. Madness, The Cribs and Catfish and the Bottlemen are just some of the other big names you can see here this year.

Organisers promise stunning panoramic views of the countryside, a fully stocked bar of local ales and ciders, a mouth-watering selection of food and more live music than you could ever possibly take in.

Throughout each day there is loads happening onsite suitable for people of all ages, there are workshops, a range of activities and performances, hula hooping and you can even try out circus skills.

There is a family campsite and children of all ages are welcome at the festival (as long as they are accompanied by adults.) so it really is a weekend the whole family can enjoy.

Tikets are priced from £89.50 - £99.50 (children under 12 go free) and if you can’t bear the thought of a phone free weekend or whiffy portaloos you can even buy a weekend phone charging pass or luxury toilet and shower upgrade as an add on - have these guys thought of everything?

Splendour - Wollaton Hall - July 23

Splendour has a proud history of bringing international artists to Nottingham’s Wollaton Hall and this year is set to be no different.

Jess Glynne headlines the main stage with The Human League, UB40, Turin Brakes and Jamie Lawson also on the line up. The Darkness and The Fratellis are top of the bill on the Confetti Stage so there really is something for everyone.

Recognised as Nottingham’s biggest summer day out and shortlisted in the final three for Best Festival in the national Live Music Business awards, organisers DHP Family and Nottingham City Council are keen to replicate the success of last year which saw 20,000 festival goers sprawled across Wollaton Park. With lots happening all over the park aside from the three music stages, including comedy in the courtyard, a kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd, the festival is a fantastic day out for all the family.

Flashback Festival - Thoresby Estate - August 19-20

Feeling nostalgic, then this could be the festival for you. For 60’s, 70’s and 80’s enthusiasts this festival is a must but the atmosphere caters for everyone.

Lulu, Bananarama and Billy Ocean top the bill at this weekend event where you can dance the night away before camping or glamping on site.

And if you don’t fancy a night under the stars then why not buy a day ticket instead and bring along a picnic, that’s right, no huge queue at the burger van, you can take your own pack up on site (no alcohol though, soft drinks and water only).

Indietracks - Midland Railway, Butterley - July 29-31

Saint Etienne, The Aislers Set and The Spook School are among the first 22 artists to be confirmed for this year’s Indietracks.

The festival takes place at a picturesque 1950s steam railway in Derbyshire and this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.

The other bands on the bill are Shopping, Expert Alterations, Flowers, Seazoo, Po!, Chrissy Barnacle, ¡Ay Carmela!, City Yelps, Soda Fountain Rag, Charla Fantasma, Vacaciones, Songs for Walter, Two White Cranes, Falling & Laughing, Maggie8, Lorna, Pete Green, The Charlie Tipper Conspiracy and Prizefighter.

Live music and steam trains...what could make for a better family weekend?

Tickets are now available at an early bird discount price of £72 (weekend) and £39 (day), excluding booking fees. These cheaper prices are available until 9pm on Sunday 15 May. After this date, prices will be £79 (weekend) and £41 (day). Weekend tickets for children aged 5-15 are £10, or £6 for a day ticket. Children under five get in free.

Bearded Theory - Catton Park - May 26-29

This award winning family-friendly festival has announced another huge tranche of exciting acts for their 2016 event with double Grammy Award-winning HipHop trailblazers Arrested Development headlining the main Pallet Stage on Sunday night.

Squeeze, Rumour Cubes, Billy Bragg, Killing Joke,Jack Savoretti, Reverend & The Makers and festival favourites The Bar Steward Sons Of Val Doonican all feature on the bill.

This festival is seriously family friendly, it even has a children’s village which boasts a fully OFSTED-approved on-site school.

Four day weekend camping tickets are priced at £97 (Adults), £52.50 (Under 16s), £21 (Under 12s) and Under fives are free (ticket is still required). Booking fees apply.

Dot to Dot Festival - Various Nottingham venues - May 29

2016 will see the eleventh edition of the award winning Dot to Dot Festival. Dot to Dot is a must go to event for any fan of cutting edge indie, rock, dance and pop music. The Festival showcases the best, most exciting, up and coming bands and DJs from the UK and beyond.

Since starting in Nottingham ten years ago Dot To Dot Festival has established itself as the UK’s premier festival for unearthing the hottest new talent around, alongside established acts from all over the globe.

Artists booked to appear this year include: The Mystery Jets, The Temper Trap, Rat Boy, Lauren Aquilina, Sundara Karma and The Japanese House.

Gate to Southwell Festival - Southwell - June 9-12

From its humble beginnings in 2007 as primarily an English folk music and dance festival, Southwell has evolved into one of the leading and most innovative folk events in the country.

2016 will be the tenth festival with organisers promising it will be extra special. To mark the milestone some of the artists who made the biggest impressions in past years will return to the stage as well as events including Dylan@75 and Songs from the Shows.

The line up includes Hayseed Dixie, Show of Hands, Eddi Reader and Kila.
