Top and yet to drop a point in ten matches in the First Division proper, Zygabyte A stretched their winning run in the Cup table to five by beating second-placed Jacksdale B 7-2. It was a victory that extended their lead to 13 points and featured yet another triumph for one of their star players, Dean Brookes, who made it ten wins out of ten in the five Cup ties so far this term.

Lower down the eight-team table, Ravenshead Riots celebrated their first win, after two defeats, by overcoming bottom-of-the-table Jacksdale A 6-3. The Riots’ hero was Simon Chatterton, who won both his singles matches and his two doubles matches too.

Riots’ village counterparts, Ravenshead Rhinos, also tasted success in a thrilling, closely-fought clash with Boothys that finished 5-4. Player-of-the-match Steve Scott was in irrepressible form, taking both his singles matches and also his two doubles legs. Derek Clarke also bagged a couple of singles victories, although the highlight of the evening came in the doubles contests, all three of which went to a fifth game. Rhinos won two of them, which proved so decisive in the end.

In the Division Two Cup, only one fixture took place, with the four-match unbeaten run of Ravenshead Rebels biting the dust against River Maun Leisure Centre, who duly leapfrogged them in the table to go second, just a point behind leaders, Snipers of St Josephs.

There was also one fixture in the Second Division proper as two teams in contention for promotion, Snipers of St Josephs and Hucknall 50-Plus, bumped into each other. A tight encounter was expected, especially after the Hucknall outfit had twice beaten their opponents this season in cup competitions, but Snipers romped to a 10-0 whitewash victory that stretched their lead at the top to nine points over second-placed Ravenshead Angels.

Angels now play both Snipers and Hucknall 50-Plus next week in what promises to be an important few days in the Division Two calendar. In next week’s First Division fixtures, Zygabyte A take on Boothys, Jacksdale A entertain Ravenshead Rhinos, Jacksdale C host Jacksdale B and Ravenshead Riots go to Zygabyte B.
