Young Harriers soar at Solihull grand prix

Mansfield Harriers have had one of the busiest weeks of the club's year with action on both track and road, with large numbers of athletes competing across the board.

Four Mansfield athletes competed at the British Milers Club Grand Prix event at Solihull on Saturday - and the highly talented teenagers go from strength to strength.

Under 17s member Luke Duffy raced to a three second new personal best to run 3.50.68 over 1,500m, which now makes him 10 seconds faster than anyone else in the UK this year at that age group.

And, for good measure, he is currently 15th on the all time list.

Archie Rayner also continued his relentless push for honours, recording a new personal best time of 3.48.26 to move him to number two in the under-20s rankings this year.

Alex Rieley ran a four second personal best to record a time of 3.53.48 and again go close to the top of the under-20s rankings for 1,500m.

After getting boxed in, Bethany Williams narrowly missed out on her best time, clocking 2.11.53 for 800m which again puts her towards the top in the UK currently.

First in for Mansfield was Jack Cooke in a time of 43.09, followed by Garry Hodgkins 44.41, Alan Kemp 46.09, Shaun Middleton 50.13, Michelle Baxter 60.48, Julie Winter 62.51 and Tina Copcutt 62.58.

Tim Richardson and Jess Breider both successfully completed an ultra event for the first time running at the Dukeries 30.
