World Sport: Batsman to quit after Ashes, Froome starts testing, Mercedes demand focus

Today in the world of sport, an Australian batsman has confirmed he will quit Test cricket after the Ashes.

Chris Rodgers, 37, will retire from Test cricket after the fifth Test at The Oval, his 25th match for Australia.

He has scored 1,972 Test runs at an average of 42.86.

Team Sky star Chris Froome has begun physiological testing to prove his achievements came without the aid of doping.

The two time Tour de France winner has denied allegations of doping, and wants cycling fans to be able to trust his achievements.

His data will be released later in the year.

In Formula One, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is demanding more focus from his team, despite being ahead in both championships.

He insists they could still end the season without a title, even with their 147-point lead over Ferrari in the constructors’ championship, and Lewis Hamilton’s 21-point advantage over team-mate Nico Rosberg.

And London 2012 Olympic 1500m champion Asli Cakir Alptekin has been stripped of her gold medal for doping.

The Turkish athlete has also been banned for eight years.
