Weather robs Farnsfield of shock victory

Unlucky Farnsfield had to settle for 10 points after rain forced play to be abandoned as they threatened to shock visiting Nottinghamshire Premier League leaders Kimberley Institute.

Mid-table Farnsfield chose to bat first and would have been disappointed to be reduced to 24 for three.

However, Callum McKenzie (56) teamed up with Liam Patterson-White (35) to add 74 for the fourth wicket to rebuild the innings.

The partnership provided the backbone of the home total of 163 all out.

Three other batsmen just made double figures as Farnsfield were dismissed in the final over — Curtis Mitchell (13), Joseph Worrall (11 not out) and Mathew Roberts (10).

In the reply, Worrall and Liam Patterson-White soon had the leaders in trouble at 38 for four, taking two early wickets apiece.

Only Archie Moore defied the home attack with an unbeaten 34 as Sam Routledge then took two wickets and Roberts one to leave Kimberley on 100 for seven with 16 overs remaining when the weather intervened.

Cuckney are just eight points behind the leaders after they won by six wickets at Attenborough.

The hosts were put in to bat, with Jack Cattrall (four for 28) reducing them to 45 for five.

Attenborough eventually reached 133 all out as James Hawley claimed three for 26.

In reply, opener Josh Porter hit three boundaries in his 34, but the visitors were in a little trouble at 80 for four, before captain Nick Langford and Daniel Wood came together in a matchwinning half-century stand.

Wood hit 30 not out and Langford 20 not out.
