Twickenham trip for Mansfield touch team

When Mansfield Rugby Club became an O2 Touchbase Centre in November 2014 they never dreamed that in their first season they would be playing at Twickenham.

Since O2 touch was launched at the club the popularity of the non-contact version has risen rapidly. A modest start with just six players turning up for the first session has now grown to over 50 registered players.

Responsible for O2 Touch at the club is husband and wife team Pete and Lisa Hutchinson, and Pete said: “It’s been a fantastic response so far and the numbers are growing all the time.

“We are keen to grow the section over the coming months and include all levels of ability for anyone over 14 years of age.

“Touch rugby is a great way of introducing people to rugby and to what the club is all about.”

Each month all O2 Touch clubs throughout the country are entered into a league table of performance and Mansfield has enjoyed great success.

O2 Touch at Mansfield Rugby Club has only been entered for the last three months and won each month.

Prizes have included a pallet of soft drinks which was shared throughout the club and a full England rugby strip.

But the best achievement so far came when O2 Touch at Mansfield won the opportunity to take a team to Twickenham to play in a touch rugby festival on the hallowed turf of HQ, along with pictures and Q&A with England scrum-half Danny Care.

O2 Touch at Mansfield Rugby Club has now been invited to attend a nationwide festival this summer which is being supported and lead by former England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson OBE.
