Anuk Sampathawaduge Fernando starred as Mansfield Hosiery Mills 1sts kept alive their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Notts Premier League.

Fernando took three wickets and hit a fine century as the Millers beat visitors Papplewick and Linby 1sts by eight wickets.

Their third win of the season left the Millers 28 points from safety with two matches remaining — and they must win at Wollaton next weekend.

Fernando first starred with the ball, dismissing three batsmen without scoring.

He helped to reduce Papplewick to 21 for three before the visitors recovered to total 177.

Fernando finished with three for 33 from 11 overs, and Daniel Harris, Savin Perera and Ekroop Saib all took two wickets apiece.

Fernando then led the run-chase in style, opening the reply and smashing 13 fours and four sixes in his 109 not out off just 96 balls.

He shared in an opening stand worth 148 with captain Kamal Manek, who also scored quickly.

He struck nine fours and a six in his 69 off 73 deliveries.

When Manek was dismissed Fernando was on 77, but he then dominated the rest of the run-chase with no other batsman scoring a single run.
