Teen overcame setback to claim two medals

Fourteen-year-old Sutton Swimming Club member Hollie-Mae Dove won two medals at the East Midlands Regional Championships at Sheffield.

Representing Nova Centurion at the three-day meet, she first swam a personal best 2-39-30 in the 200m individual medley to finish 15th.

In the first of her favoured events, Hollie-Mae qualified for the 200m breaststroke final in third in 2-50-79.

She claimed bronze in the final in a slightly slower time.

Then in arguably her best event, the 100m breaststroke, where she was strongly fancied to take a medal, Hollie-Mae was unable to complete the heat.

She returned on day three to overcome that disappointment by swimming 35-93 in the heats of the 50m breaststroke, qualifying in second position for the final.

She improved the time to 35-71 to win the silver medal.

Hollie-Mae completed her championships with a personal best 29-75 to finish 13th in the 50m freestyle.

Sutton SC head coach Lee Bunker said all 19 Sutton SC swimmers did extremely well to even qualify for the competition.

“I am proud of all the Sutton swimmers who continue to improve and represent the club excellently at this high level of competition,” he said.
