“We hope the mounting excitement around this event will help to encourage the nest generation of cyclists, and that people will be left feeling inspired to take to the saddle.”

It is the third time in four years that the county has hosted a stage of the race. Last year, stage four started in Mansfield and more than 210,000 spectators lined the streets as it made its way to Newark.

An estimated one million people watched the Nottinghamshire stage on ITV4, either live or in a highlights package, while the Tour Of Britain’s presence in the county is said to have boosted the local economy by £3.4 million.
