Swim star Charlotte Henshaw bounces back to win world silver

Charlotte had been a medallist in every major International Paralympic Committee Swimming Championship since 2009, apart from 2014, where she unfortunately had to withdraw from the IPC European Championships due to illness.

Having to miss last year’s competition made Charlotte even more determined to collect another major championship medal this year.

In Glasgow, the 28-year-old twice improved her 100m breaststroke European record - 1:37.45 in the morning heats and one minute, 36.94 seconds in the final - but was beaten to by Australian teenager Tiffany Thomas-Kane, who set a new world record to claim gold.

“I knew I was going to have a tough race after this morning,” she said.

“I swam a PB this morning and my real aim was to be relaxed for the final and try and go another best time. That was my aim coming into the meet and I’m so happy to have been able to do it twice.

“It’s great to win a medal at home in front of friends and family.

“It’s a little reminiscent of London and that was a silver medal there so I’m getting a little collection of them now.”
