Swim duo get Commonwealth call-up

Local duo Ollie Hynd and Molly Renshaw have been selected as part of the 39-strong English swimming team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Paralympic champion Ollie (19), from Kirkby said: “I am really excited to be competing at my first Commonwealth Games.

“I’m sure the crowd will be loud and really reminiscent of London which will be great. I really want to complete my medal set with a good performance in Glasgow.

“I think competing for England is a massive honour and I really hope I can do everyone proud when I get on to the blocks in Glasgow.

“It will be difficult with strong Australian challengers but I will put my all in.”

For Molly (17), of Selston, it is joy after the heartache of being left out of the Team GB squad for the London Olympics, when she finished 0.83 seconds outside the qualifying standard at the ASA National Championships.

It also ended a nervous wait for the Mansfield-born swimmer as she had had to make do with a silver medal in the British Gas Swimming Championships.

She also had her recently-established English record snatched away from her, even though she recorded a big personal best.

Swimming at the Commonwealth Games takes place at Tollcross International Aquatic Centre from July 24th-29th.
