Swim aces Ollie and Charlotte on the glory trail

Mansfield Paralympic swimming champion Ollie Hynd MBE has started his journey for Commonwealth and European success.

He is training in London with the other members of Team England at their holding camp, before travelling to Glasgow on 21 July.

Ollie will compete in the SM8 200m individual medley on Monday 28 July.

He will then join up with fellow Mansfield swimmer Charlotte Henshaw and the GB Para Swimming Team on 2nd August to fly to Eindhoven where they will both compete in the IPC European Championships, which are on from 4th-10th August.

In Eindhoven he will compete in the S8 100m backstroke on 4th August, 400m freestyle on 5th August and the SM8 200m Individual Medley on 6th August.

Before Ollie set off, Mayor of Mansfield Tony Egginton and Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, wished Ollie good luck at a training session in the gym at Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex.

The Mayor said: “We are all rooting for Ollie and wish him the best of luck both at the Commonwealth Games and at the European Championships. Hopefully he will bring home more medals to add to his collection.”

Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw are coached by Mansfield District Council’s swim coach and development officer, Glenn Smith, who is one of 10 coaches appointed to work with Britain’s Paralympic swimmers in the lead up to Rio 2016.
