Sutton swimmers retain title

Sutton Swimming Club again dominated at the annual Nottingham Northern Open Meet, retaining their Top Club Trophy as well as taking the Top Boy and Top Girl awards.

In all 16 girls and 11 boys aged between nine and 14 represented the club at Beechdale Pool in Nottingham.

And they did not disappoint on the day and collectively secured numerous personal best times, had 33 places in finals in the morning session and 36 places in finals in the afternoon session. Additionally Sutton SC had eight boy and eight girl swimmers placed in the top six in their age group in the heat declared winner 100m individual medley races. This meant a total haul of 85 trophies for Sutton SC.

These impressive performances resulted in Sutton securing 358.5 team points, meaning that they comfortably beat the other 13 swimming clubs that participated with runners-up Bramcote SC achieving 200 points and third-placed Radford SC gaining 166.5 points.

Sutton swimmers also won the highly coveted Top Boy and Top Girl awards.

Incredibly there were four boys that all shared the Top Boy award by taking the maximum 30 points from their five events. Three of these four Top Boys were Sutton swimmers Matthew Woodhall (9), Joshua Leeson (11) and Jim Fergie (12).

The overall Top Girl was Mia Fergie (12) who won four of her five events and came runner-up in the fifth, having slipped on the diving block at the start of that particular race.

The Sutton squad comprised: Alice Jones, Lauren Church, Lydia Pascoe, Matthew Woodhall (all aged nine), Ellethea Hawley, Ellie Bunker, Nell Polley, Tammy Chamberlain, Spike Atkinson and Jack Berta (all 10), Chloe Quinn, Heather Edwards, Ben Mattin, Connor Marsh, Giovanni Balanur and Joshua Leeson (all 11), Ellie Read, Mia Fergie, Nicola Peach and Jim Fergie (all 12), Lauren Dobbs, Kelsey Edwards and Liam Marsh (all 13), and Chloe Peach, Neve Fergie, Sophie Bunker and Jake Hudd (all 14).

A fantastic effort again also saw Sutton finished third on the night and in third place overall in the Notts ASA Stage 3 competition.

Sherwood took top honours on the night with 201 points, Leander were second with 197 points, Sutton finished with 157, Mansfield were fourth with 138 points, CABS were fifth with 112 and Arnold were sixth with 94 points.
