Sutton Sting win their first senior league title

Jubilant Sutton Sting ice hockey club have won the first league title at senior level of their short history.

Sting were crowned champions of the North Two (Laidler) Conference in the National Ice Hockey League after winning 26 of their 35 games so far.

Head coach Simon Butterworth said: “It’s been a long, tough season, but we did a great job.”

Captain Scott Morris added: “Most people wrote us off at the beginning of the season. But we stuck together and I am proud of every one of the boys.”

Sting now take on the South Two champions in a national final at Coventry on Sunday, April 8.
