Sutton duo’s busy race weekend

Sutton Harriers duo Catherine Davies and Claire Watson took part in two races in two days.

First was the Notts 10 mile at Nottingham Holme Pierrepoint which saw an unusually hot evening for a gruelling run around the two and half lap course.

Both ladies ran hard in the heat and completed the race, Catherine’s 16th lady in a time of 1hr 15mins 41secs and Claire back in 1hr 19mins 48secs.

Their next race was the return of the Derby Ramathon on a 13.1 mile flat course at Elvaston Country Park.

On a scorching hot day, with the hugely supporting crowds keeping their spirits up, both Catherine and Claire finished the race through the heat with Catherine the 15th lady back in 1hr 41mins 42secs, going straight for a free massage, and Claire home in 1hr 51mins 47secs, but going straight to work!

Another member of Sutton Harriers, Gary Goacher, ran a fantastic training run for his forthcoming Nottingham Outlaw Ironman in July.

After cycling from his home near Sutton to the event, he finished the race in a time of 1hr 57min 44secs.

Sutton Harriers’ Tony Goodyear completed his preparation for an Ironman event in Switzerland next month with 19th place in a quality field at the Bala Middle Distance Triathlon in North Wales.

This consisted of a 2k swim, 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run.

The swim was in the Bala Lake and, with the rough conditions on race day, Tony found the first 1000m a struggle against the wind.

But on the turn round and heading back, the conditions were in his favour, exiting the water in a pleasing 37 minutes.

The bike course was a out and back hilly route around Snowdonia through scenic landscape.

With the wind still blowing Tony still managed just over an average of 22mph, finishing the bike time of 2hr 31mins.

Next with trainers on, Tony was ready for the run which was also an out and back over a undulating course on country lanes overlooking Lake Tegig still with the wind blowing.

Finishing the run in 1hr 26mins, Tony completed the whole race in 4hr 38mins 6secs.
