Sting win Co-op Token of Support award

Central England Co-operative has announced Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Academy as the winners of a £1,200 grant as its six-week Token of Support campaign comes to an end.

The Hockey Academy received the most green tokens as customers voted in three Central England Co-operative food stores in Ashfield, including sites on Skegby Road, Chapel Street and fuel station on Huthwaite Road.

“It has gone towards a new, much-needed, mini-bus for the club which has been very well received by Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Academy.”

Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Academy was formed in 2006 to provide children with the opportunity to play ice hockey.

They now have 10 teams competing in the English Ice Hockey Association leagues with children from five to 17 years of age playing hockey and keeping active. This fun and rewarding Club is accredited by Sport England’s Club Mark scheme and is regarded as one of the best ice hockey club’s in the country. The Sting play at the Lammas Leisure Centre and have opportunities and openings for new players throughout the year.

Runners-up, 1st Kirkby Scouts, who also participated in the campaign, didn’t leave empty handed as they were granted the runner-up prize of £800 which will go towards new camping equipment for the group.

‘Token of Support’ sees staff hand out green tokens to each customer at the checkout who can then choose which local group to donate it to by placing their token into a dedicated collection box.
