Sutton Sting powered past a bewildered Nottingham 17-1 to get off to a flying start in the EIHA Division Two U14 ice hockey league at Nottingham Ice Centre.
After a close-fought four minutes, Bailey Templar opened the Sting account with a blistering wrist shot.
Moments later Templar scored again on the way to a three goal game to build the away team’s confidence after an impressive start by the Nottingham netminder.
Before the period break Nottingham halved the lead to make the score of 2-1 in Sutton’s favour at the buzzer.
The second period saw space open up for Sutton as they used the large ice to their advantage, resulting in puck pressure and converted scoring opportunities by the Sting forwards.
Recent acquistion James Shaw made an impression with a well-worked goal upon returning to the game after a 2+10 penalty for hitting from behind.
James Gibbons and Sam Alderton worked hard in their first outings as U14s before James Spencer slotted home the first of his three goals in an burst of speed to beat the Nottingham keeper.
Having the game of his life Callum Neenan completed his hat-trick in the third period.
‘Girl Power’ added to the scoreline with a marker from Chloe Riley, ably assisted by Lizzie Saunders before Freddie Talbot and Lewis Jones scored beautifully-worked goals.
